Cooking Glossary for Young Cooks Part 1

  • Beat - to mix ingredients together until they are smooth
  • Boil - this is when you cook food in a pot and it starts bubbling
  • Melt - this is when you make a solid food (such as butter) into a liquid state 
  • Stir - to mix the recipe ingredients thoroughly with a spoon or other utensil
  • Grease - this is when you put oil or butter on the inside surface of a pan
  • Knead - this is when you are shaping a dough until it forms a smooth balls
  • Fold - to blend two mixtures into a smooth consistency by lifting and turning them over with a spoon
