  • Check with an adult before you start cooking.
  • Ask for help when you have to cut something, open a can or take something out of the oven or the stove. 
  • Read the recipe thoroughly before you start preparing it and ask an adult if you have any questions.
  • Before you start making a recipe get all the ingredients and tools that you will need.
  • After adding all the ingredients go through the recipe again to check if you haven’t missed something. 
  • Wash your hands often. Always wash your hands after touching uncooked meat.
  • Wear an apron when cooking to avoid staining your clothes.
  • Tie back your hair to not get in your way and also to prevent hair falling in the dish. 
  • Know the important difference between use-by (deadline) and best before (guideline) dates.
  • Always turn off the oven and the stove when you have finished cooking.
  • Use a cutting board when you have to chop ingredients with a knife.
  • Mop/clean up spillages as they happen.
